Shipping and Handling

Harmonized Codes for International Shipping

  • With MDF: 4410.11.0030
  • With UltraCast: 3904.30.2000

BASIC HANDLING

  1. Store Kinon panels on flat, even surfaces of equal or greater dimension to the panel itself. Our crates are designed and built for proper storage and serve as the best example to emulate if additional storage space is needed.

  2. Cut Kinon with laminate-grade saw blades and router bits.

  3. For daily cleaning of grime and fingerprints, spray with recommended Kinon cleaners and wipe with a microfiber cloth.

  4. Standard Polishing (Factory Standard 2020): To remove light scratches, polish at 1300–1500 RPM with a wool bonnet using Farecla Advanced Plus Compound to achieve a factory-level finish. Repeat as necessary.

  5. For the deepest scratch removal possible without causing serious finish modifications and to remove router marks from trim routers, sand with 3M Trizact Foam 1000 + water using a random orbital sander. Then follow the standard polishing steps in point 4.

  6. To remove excess contact adhesive, protective film residue, stubborn grime, nail polish, or marker, wipe with a microfiber cloth using acetone or Kinon Sanitizing Cleaner. Wear proper gloves, use a respirator, and ensure adequate ventilation. Follow points 4 and 5 as necessary.

SHIPPING & HANDLING

  1. Kinon sheets are shipped flat and crated. Standard crate dimensions for 5ft x 12ft sheets are 154″ x 68″ with a maximum height of 21″. Custom-sized sheets require crates approximately 10″ longer and 10″ wider than the largest sheet dimension.

    • Crates are designed for forklift loading and unloading. Use forklift forks at least 50% the crate’s length.
    • Trucks must accommodate the crate size, protect crates from natural elements, and ensure cargo doors can close securely.
    • Crates are not waterproof and must be secured to prevent sliding during transit.
    • Crates must ship flat. Do not stack objects heavier than 500 lbs on top of crates; avoid stacking altogether if possible.
  2. Kinon must be shipped and stored in a temperature-controlled environment, maintaining 45°F – 110°F (7.22°C – 43.33°C) and avoiding exposure to natural elements. For sea or air freight, a temperature-controlled environment is recommended. Optimal sea freight conditions are 65°F – 82°F (18.33°C – 27.77°C) with <45% humidity. Extreme temperatures or sudden changes can degrade the material.

  3. MDF composites are intended for interior applications and must not be exposed to extreme humidity or temperature variations.

  4. Kinon UltraCast with inter-coat is waterproof and suitable for shower walls and wet applications but is not intended for saunas, steam rooms, or hammams. Extreme temperatures above 130°F or temperature variations can cause aging and oxidation.

  5. Aging and Oxidation: Fresh Kinon will appear lighter in tone than aged samples. The material will age over time to match the sample.

  6. Kinon UltraCast and UltraCast with inter-coat are not structural materials and must be adhered to a suitable structural substrate.

  7. Any order picked up from our facility requires a minimum 25′ truck with a standard dock height of 44″.

  8. Do not apply protective films outside manufacturer recommendations. For protective film purchases, contact Kinon directly.

  9. Dimensions:

    • UltraCast and UltraCast with inter-coat usable size: 58″ x 143″ (1473mm x 3632mm).
    • UltraCast thickness: 2.5mm ± 0.5mm.
    • Mold & KCD panels thickness: 3mm to 3.5mm ± 0.5mm. Confirm thickness with your representative.
  10. Standard crates for panels measure 153″ x 67″. Crates must ship flat and are not stackable.

  11. Do not mix materials from different lots. Use material from the same lot to ensure consistent aging rates.

  12. Shipping costs are not included.

INSTALLATION

  1. Installer Qualifications: Installers must demonstrate experience with architectural woodwork, wall paneling, or cabinet making, depending on the project. A balancer may be required on the panel’s reverse side.
  2. As Kinon is prefinished, installers are responsible for any touch-ups.
  3. Installers must review fabrication processes in the Technical section of the Kinon website for instructions on cutting, adhering, cleaning, maintaining, or repairing the material.

DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Store Kinon UltraCast pieces on flat, even, and clean surfaces.
  2. When transporting fabricated panels, protect edges, corners, and surfaces with cardboard, felt, blankets, or protective film. Use only Kinon-provided protective film. Contact Kinon Sales Representatives for film or felt purchases.
  3. Corner guards, cardboard, and blankets are widely available for protection during transport.

PROJECT CONDITIONS

  1. Do not deliver or install materials until:

    • The building is enclosed.
    • Wet work is complete.
    • HVAC systems are operational.
  2. The building must maintain 65°F – 82°F (18°C – 26°C) and <45% relative humidity for the remainder of construction.

  3. Do not install materials until normal lighting conditions are in place. Normal lighting refers to the conditions expected after project completion.

  4. Walls, ceilings, floors, and openings must be level, plumb, straight, in-line, and square before installation.

  5. Do not expose materials to continuous direct sunlight or extreme temperature and humidity.

  6. Condition materials in the installation environment for at least 72 hours before installation.
